Welcome to the first Olivia Canela blog entry. This blog has been a long time coming. A few years back I had a first blog closed to the public. I came to realize that although I enjoyed writing, I missed the exchange of words, the different views of people that are passionate about a certain topic. A blog needs to be more than a life diary, right?
Although this blog is associated with my Olivia Canela store, I am aiming to create a safe place where we can share stories and learn with each other. Themes will be diverse since I have the habit of constantly falling in love with the most miscellaneous subjects but be prepared to read plenty about the following:
My family and I will be enjoying 3 full months in Portugal, my home country. This is a rare treat only possible due to the maternity leave that I am now enjoying. Photos of sandy beaches, cobblestone sidewalks, pastries and more will surely adorn this blog.
I have been gardening in the small backyards of the houses I have inhabited in the past 4 years. It has been a steep curve due to the challenging weather conditions we experience in Newfoundland. I was lucky to find passionate gardeners eager to share their knowledge and every year my bounty has been increasing exponentially. I am also a board member of this amazing little group called Food Security Action St. John’s (FEASt).
Stop unexpectedly by our place and more often than not you will find us in the kitchen. This room of bright mustard walls and a fair sized pantry is the heart of our home. Some new recipes that I want to tackle are stored in my Pinterest account.
In January we welcomed into our home our little boy Samuel. I hope that Chris and I are able to spark inquisitiveness and empathy in this little human being. I also hope that speaking solely Portuguese to Samuel will help him communicate with his family on the other side of the Atlantic in the years to come.
Thanks for stopping by and I can’t wait to hear from you.
