Last weekend Olivia Canela had its last fair until the spring. It was a great season where even a new product came to life but I am ready to enjoy a slower pace during the cold months. I am eager to welcome one of my favourite hobbies back into my life.
Knitting is normally done while sitting in the couch, wrapped in a blanket with a steamy cup of tea while watching a movie or listening to an audio book. It is seriously one of the best ways to spend a lazy winter afternoon. Now, I have to admit that those bamboo needles haven’t seen much action this year. Last Christmas, all my Portuguese family received knitted gifts that included hats, fingerless cloves, socks, and lace scarfs. This year, I barely completed a pair of socks, my baby does not have a single thing knitted by his momma and, for our knit club ornament exchange, and I was finishing my ornament –a minuscule bird – during knit club!
I am trying to cut myself some slack. I am a new mom and dedicated more time to Olivia Canela than ever before. To make up for my lack of knitting I have been gorging my son on local hand-knitted garments such as hats, shorties, and toys. A few years ago, I started and finished a hat while relaxing from Christmas Day brunch (it was a big brunch that needed a lot of relaxing/digesting). I am hoping that Tuesday will be the day I start knitting something for Samuel… but if it is not, that is just fine as well.
P.S. – I have been neglecting the knitting but I did do some sewing. This new family needed proper stockings, right?
