Today I’m home with a sick little boy. You know how it is when you have a sick child: You are fully present and it’s about all the snuggles and hugs, all the warm milk with honey, all the storybooks and movies with popcorn. Still, while buddy is napping, I can’t help it but thinking: “Oh man, I wish I was at Nova Yoga for Lunch Flow!”.
I have written about my yoga practice here and here while I was pregnant. In the past couple of weeks, between office life, SeaBerry Studios projects, lack of transportation and now buddy’s pneumonia, it has been hard for my body to find its way to the studio. Both physically and mentally I’m really missing that yoga-me time. I also know that I have no excuse of not doing some home and office practice. I’ll be doing something about it as soon as I finish writing but first I wanted to share these local amazing projects.
Two of my favourite local yoga teachers just launched 2 outstanding and complementary programs for people that just like me find that getting to the yoga studio is sometimes impossible.
If you are office bound, Susan Day, a.k.a. The Office Yogi, has a membership site where you have access to loads of short, powerful videos. Most of poses are discrete enough that you can do them at your desk without having your colleagues looking you weird. If your colleagues ask any questions, I would suggest getting a few of them together and get a group subscription. This is the best way to get more bang for your buck and start changing the motionless culture of most workplaces. There’s also a seven day free trial so how can’t you not try it out?!
Then you have Melanie Caines! When you have the chance to roll out the mat you want to check this new site that the owner of Nova Yoga launched just this week. Her new subscription site offers short and longer vinyasa style classes that I’m sure are just like her live classes: Brilliant and Energy Boosting! I’ll be trying a spicy flow shortly. Melanie offers a 30-day free trial… I’m sure it will be hard not to continue after that.
Little buddy also loves yoga. A few months ago while we were also home sick, I suggested yoga. He grabbed his yoga mat walked outside, placed the mat on the driveway (not the lawn!) and proceeded to do some downward dogs. I already placed his yoga mat next to mine, and promised him a mini-practice once he wakes up from his nap.
